Our lab is staffed by professional, registered Medical Technologists, Medical Lab Technicians, Histologists, Cytologists, Clinical Lab Assistants, Phlebotomists and Board Certified Pathologists to meet and exceed the needs of our customers.

Our state-of-the-art equipment is second to none in CAP accredited laboratories with full back-up capabilities for most of your testing. We are interfaced to the hospital computer system so that when we result a procedure, it is immediately available to your physician.

 

The GRMC Lab is open 24 hours and you don't need an appointment! Bring your provider's presription to the Registration area located next to the Emergency entrance. At Registration your information will be taken and they will escort you to your next stop -- the Lab waiting area. A caregiver will call your name and walk with you to the next station where you receive services. That is it! You can request your results to made available to your provider or you may pick them up yourself at the Medical Records Office.

Laboratory Services:

Microbiology - We are equipped with the Vitek 2 Compact for identification and susceptibility testing of microorganisms and the BacT/Alert 3D for Automated Blood Cultures. In the department we provide cultures for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and blood cultures. We provide limited but rapid Parasitology and Virology testing. Fungus and AFB cultures are referred to LabCorp. This department is operational 24 hours a day.

Serology - We offer a variety of testing including: Pregnancy, Strep Screens, Hepatitis, HIV, RSV, Flu A and B, etc. 24 hours a day.

Cytology/Histology - This department offers a variety of testing to including liquid Pap Smears, fluid cytology, tissue preparations, special stains and immunohistochemistry for the diagnosis of lymphomas and cancers.

Immunology - We are equipped with the J & J Eci and the ImmunoCap for performing Allergy testing. In this area, we perform batch testing a few times a week, but have the capability to perform STAT testing.

Blood Bank - We stock several units of O pos, O neg, A pos, A neg, B pos, B neg and AB pos blood. We also stock Fresh Frozen Plasma for coagulation problems. Within three hours we can have Platelets and more blood products in a STAT situation. We are in the process of installing the Gel system which is the gold standard in labs. The Blood Bank transfuses 900 units/year.

Chemistry - We have dual DADE Behring RxL Max analyzers that perform a wide range of biochemical testing on either a STAT or routine basis. This area is operational 24 hours a day to meet the needs of our clinicians and patients.

Hematology - We are equipped with a Coulter LH750 that can process over 150 specimens an hour and a Coulter HMx that can process over 100 specimens an hour. This area is operational 24 hours a day to meet the needs of our clinicians and patients.

Coagulation - We are equipped with an ACL 9000 and ACL 8000 that can process around 30 specimens per hour on each analyzer. We offer ProTimes, PTTs and D-Dimers 24 hours a day.
