The Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) provides the public with access to information about governmental affairs. By law, under the Inspection of Public Records Act, every person has the right to inspect public records with only a few exceptions.
Procedure for Requesting Inspection:
Requests to inspect public records should be submitted to the Compliance Office. A person desiring to inspect public records may submit a request orally or in writing (email, USPS). However the procedures and penalties prescribed by the Act apply only to written requests.
Requesting for reasons or justification on why certain actions were taken are not proper requests under the law.
The Act allows agencies to charge a reasonable fee for copies of public records. Gila Regional Medical Center charges a fee of $0.25 per page for copying and charges the actual cost for a CD or jump drive for electronic copies that cannot be emailed. The records custodian will advise the requester of the amount of any fee and may request the fee be paid in advance, before the copies are made. A receipt indicating that the fees have been paid will be provided upon request to the person requesting the copies.
